Music

Music is an art form that may be simply described as the controlled manipulation of sound. Humans have made music for thousands of years and there is evidence that even people in prehistoric times would have created simplistic forms of music. There is a huge amount of variety in music, with hundreds upon thousands of different styles existing and as with other creative arts there are practically limitless opportunities for new developments to occur. Music has played a very important role in human life in every culture. Music has often been used for religious and ceremonial purposes, military purposes, and simply for the pleasure of playing and listening to music.

People worldwide will recognise the sound of music; even music that is totally alien to a person can be recognised as music created by another human being, music has had that much of an impact on human life. Music is typical played using instruments, again there is a practically limitless variety amongst types and styles of instruments, for example a rock banged against another rock rhythmically could be considered a percussive instrument. It is often considered desirable to have the ability to play a musical instrument to a high standard and use it to create music, however most instruments require a great deal of practice and indeed talent for an individual to become a truly accomplished player.
